Dvir (Hebrew:דְּבִיר), also known asDvira (Hebrew:דְּבִירָה), is akibbutz in southernIsrael. Located nearRahat andBeersheba, it falls under the jurisdiction ofBnei Shimon Regional Council. In 2022 it had a population of 1,071.[1]
The kibbutz was established in 1951 byHashomer Hatzair members fromHungary and took[2] its name from theBiblical city of Dvir (Joshua 21:15) that was located in the area. The original residents were joined by immigrants fromSouth America.
A member of the kibbutz, Yitzhak Mintz, developed theQTextword processing program in 1988 which was one of the first to handle theHebrew language.[3]
