Duvidha (transl. Dilemma) is a 1973ghost movie directed byMani Kaul, based on aRajasthani story of the same name byVijaydan Detha.[1] The film starsRavi Menon andRaisa Padamsee in lead roles. The film was critically acclaimed and won the director theNational Film Award for Best Direction[2] andCritics Award for Best film at the 1974Filmfare Awards.[3] This film was remade in 2005 asPaheli, starringShahrukh Khan andRani Mukherjee in the lead roles.
The film is set in ruralRajasthan. It is based on a story byVijayadan Detha, which relates a popular folktale from Rajasthan about a merchant's son, Krishanlal.[1]
The film was extensively shot in Borunda village, inTehsilBilara,Jodhpur district, the village of the author Vijay Dan Detha' Bijji.[1]
The music of film was given byfolk musicians of Rajasthan, Ramzan Hammu, Latif and Saki Khan.[4]
TheAmol Palekar movie,Paheli, released in 2005, is also based on the same story.
