Duroziez's sign is a sign ofaortic insufficiency.[1] It consists of an audible diastolic murmur which can be heard over thefemoral artery when it is compressed with the bell of a stethoscope.[1]
It is named for French physicianPaul Louis Duroziez who published its description in 1861,[1][2] even though it was first described by Portuguese physicianPedro Francisco da Costa Alvarenga in 1855;[3] for this reason it is alternatively known as theAlvarenga-Duroziez sign.
