Duolu Qaghan (full title:Chinese:吞阿娄拔奚利邲咄陆可汗;pinyin:Tūn'ālóubáxīlìbì Duōlù Kèhán), bornAshina Nishu, was a ruler of theWestern Turkic Khaganate from 632 to 634 or 633 to 634.[1]
Ashina Nishu wasBagha Shad's son. After his uncleTong Yabghu Qaghan was killed byKülüg Sibir, the candidate of the eastern orDuolu faction (the other being the westernNushibi faction) the Duolu tribes became the dominant power of theWestern Turkic Khaganate. Nishu (later Duolu Qaghan), then a partisan of rivalNushibi clan supported his cousin (Tong Yabghu's son) Dieli Teqin to throne in 631 asSy Yabghu Qaghan. In 633 after a coup, Sy Yabghu escaped to south and the Nushibi clan supported Nishu who was a living inKarasahr (now a city inXinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region ofChina) to throne as Duolu Qaghan.
According to the Turkish historian DAydın Usta, who relies on the medieval Persian historianAl-Taberi,Ibn al-Athir andBelazuri, Duolu tried to helpKhusrow III against the armies of the Arabic caliphate and participated in minor battles, but he had to return east because of a rebellion.[2]
Beginning with his reign, the Nushibi clan became the dominant power in the khaganate. In 634 after a year of rule he died and left his throne to his brother Tong Shad (laterIshbara Tolis).[3]
