Umeå Wrestling Battle is an annual internationalwrestling tournament held inUmeå,Sweden, each October during week 41. The event features competition inGreco-Roman and women’s wrestling for all age groups, and freestyle wrestling for boys from the FS14 category and upwards. It is organised byUmeå Brottning.
The tournament developed from the event known asNorrländska Elitbrottningarna, a regional championship for wrestlers from northern Sweden. Umeå hosted Norrländska Elitbrottningarna in 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018 (with the 2016 edition held in Härnösand). In 2019 the competition was re-branded as Umeå Wrestling Battle to reflect its broader and more international scope. The new format attracted wrestlers from clubs across Sweden and neighbouring countries, with increased participation across multiple age and style categories.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]
By 2024 the tournament reported a record number of registered entrants (694 from 97 clubs across 12 countries).[5] Official result files from RingerDB show the number of actual starters each year, illustrating steady growth of the event.[8]
Umeå Wrestling Battle is typically held during mid-October (week 41). The competition includes Greco-Roman and women’s divisions for all ages, and freestyle divisions for boys from the FS14 category.
