    Krishna Gokuldas Prabhu (born 28 December, 1954) is an Indian short story writer, novelist, translator, and critic inKonkani.[1][2] He was awarded theSahitya Akademi Award in 1994 for his collection of short stories,Antar Āyāmi (अंतरआयामी).[3][4][5][6][7][8][9] In 2002, he received the translation award for Konkani fromSahitya Akademi for the titleChavki.[10][11][12][13][14][15] He has served as a member of the General Council of the Sahitya Akademi.[1]

    Early Life and Education

    Krishna Gokuldas Prabhu was born inKochi,Kerala,India.[1][16] He completed his schooling atTD High School, Mattancherry, and his pre-degree course atSt Albert's College,Ernakulam. He graduated in zoology from theSacred Heart College,Thevara, Kerala. He later obtained a master’s degree in English literature.[1][16][17]

    Prabhu is proficient in Konkani, his mother tongue, as well asEnglish,Hindi, andMalayalam. He also speaksKannada andTamil.[18][19]

    Career

    Prabhu began writing in his teens, with his early writings appearing in local periodicals during his college years.[17][19][20] In 1979, he began his professional career at theCorporation Bank.[17]

    Prabhu started publishing short stories in Konkani from 1980 onwards.[17] His short stories won the Kuḷāgar prize in the competitions organised by theGoan Konkani magazine,Kuḷāgar, in 1981 and 1982.[17] He has since published several works of fiction, translations, and edited volumes.

    Prabhu was chosen to preside over the 15th All India Konkani Sahitya Sammelan in 2001, held inPorvorim, Goa, which was inaugurated byGulzar.[21][22] In the same year, he became the vice president of the All India Konkani Parishad, later serving as its president from 2014 to 2018.[1][23]

    From 2003 to 2008, he editedRutu (ऋतु), a bimonthly Konkani literary magazine for poetry.[1][24] He served as a member of the General Council of the Sahitya Akademi,New Delhi, from 2013 to 2017.[1][25]

    Prabhu has been a member of the Advisory Committee for the Konkani Study Chair atMangalore University,Karnataka, since 2015.[26]
