David Calabrese, known professionally asDr. Chud, is an Americanhorror punk drummer best known for his work with theMisfits. He has also been a member ofGraves,Gorgeous Frankenstein,Doyle andBlitzkid, and fronts his own solo projectDr. Chud's X-Ward.

Early life

Dr. Chud attendedLodi High School together withDoyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein,Eerie Von andSteve Zing.[1] As a teenager, he was a fan ofBlondie,Aerosmith,Queen andLed Zeppelin.[1]

Career

Dr. Chud began his musical career by playing with Dan Kidney and the Pulsations for seven years from 1987 to1994.[1] He also recorded and produced a self-titled album with Sacred Trash before joiningDoyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein and his brotherJerry Only inKryst the Conqueror in 1992.[1]

In 1995, Only and Doyle reformed theMisfits and recruited Chud and singerMichale Graves for the band.[2] The lineup recorded the studio albumsAmerican Psycho andFamous Monsters, and the live albumEvillive II, before Chud and Graves left the band in 2000. After leaving the Misfits, the pair formed the bandGraves. The band released their debut album,Web of Dharma, in 2002, produced by Chud, before splitting up that same year.[3]

In addition to his work with the Misfits and Graves, Chud played drums forJoey Ramone on theWe Will Fall: A Tribute to Iggy Pop album and appeared on Ramone's solo recordDon't Worry About Me, in addition to producing the Sardonica albumFlip the Grill. In 2003, Chud formed a new band namedDr. Chud's X-Ward, which released their debut albumDiagnosis for Death in 2004 on the drummer's own record label Bloodwork Records.[4][1]

In 2008, Chud joined Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein's bandGorgeous Frankenstein for their second tour.[5] On 26 December 2009, Chud and former Misfits bandmates Doyle and Michale Graves took part in what was referred as the Misfits "Near-Reunion" in New Jersey as they performed as an opening act forDanzig, with bassistArgyle Goolsby completing the lineup.[6]

In 2010, Chud appeared on the television seriesLA Ink, starringKat Von D. He received a tattoo of his famous stitches that he usually draws on his chest and back, circling his neck, by tattoo artistAmy Nicoletto. In 2012, Gorgeous Frankenstein dissolved and Chud joined Doyle's neweponymous band. Doyle released their debut album,Abominator, in 2013.[7] Chud departed from Doyle the following year.
