Dominic Matthew Jesse Barrington (born 1962) is a BritishAnglican priest. Since 2022, he has beenDean of York Minster, the cathedral of theChurch of England'sDiocese of York.[1] He had beendean ofSt James Cathedral, Chicago, in theEpiscopal Church (United States), from 2015 to 2022.

Early life and education

Barrington was born in 1962.[2] He studied atHatfield College, Durham,[1] graduating fromDurham University with aBachelor of Arts (BA) degree in 1984 and aMaster of Science (MSc) degree in 1985.[2] He trained for ordination atRipon College Cuddesdon, an Anglican theological college, graduating from the University of Oxford with a further BA in 1994.[2] He then spend a year studying at theChurch Divinity School of the Pacific, a seminary of theEpiscopal Church (United States), graduating with aMaster of Theological Studies (MTS) degree in 1995.[2]

Ordained ministry

Barrington wasordained in theChurch of England as adeacon in 1995 and as apriest in 1996.[2] He served hiscuracy atSt Mary the Virgin, Mortlake in theDiocese of Southwark between 1995 and 1998.[2] He then returned to Durham University, hisalma mater, as chaplain toSt Chad's College, Durham.[1][2] In 2003, he returned to parish ministry and was appointedpriest-in-charge ofSt Peter and St Paul's Church, Kettering with St Michael and All Angels in theDiocese of Peterborough.[2] He was made thebenefice'srector in 2010.[1]

In March 2015, it was announced that he would be the nextdean ofSt James Cathedral, Chicago, United States; it is the cathedral of theEpiscopal Diocese of Chicago.[3] He was installed as the 8th dean of St James Cathedral during a service on 13 September 2015.[4]

On 13 July 2022, he was announced as the nextDean of York, succeedingJonathan Frost, thereby returning to England.[1] He was installed as the 77th dean during a service held on 12 November 2022 at York Minster.[5]
