Dometius of Byzantium (Greek: Δομέτιος; died 284) wasbishop of Byzantium from about 272 to about 284.[1]
He was a brother of theRoman emperorProbus. He converted toEarly Christianity, and fled Rome toByzantium with his two sons,Probus andMetrophanes to escape persecution.[2]
He was baptised by bishopTitus of Byzantium, whom he succeeded.[3] and entered the clergy. After the death of Titus in 272 he became bishop.[2]
His sons later became bishops of the same city:[2]Probus (served 293–306) andMetrophanes (served 306–314).
