Dolly Ahluwalia is an Indian actress and costume designer who was awarded theSangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2001 for costume design.[1] She has won 3Filmfare Awards and threeNational Film Awards, twoBest Costume Design awards forBandit Queen (1993) andHaider (2014), and then asBest Supporting Actress forVicky Donor (2012), which is also her best known role as an actress.[2]

Career

She is alumni ofNational School of Drama graduating in 1979. Ahluwalia started her career by designing costumes for theatre. Thereafter she started film career withShekhar Kapur'sBandit Queen in 1993, which got her firstNational Film Award for Best Costume Design.[3] Thereafter she designed for notable directors likeVishal Bhardwaj inThe Blue Umbrella (2005),Omkara (2006),Blood Brothers (2007),Kaminey (2009) andHaider (2014),[2] withDeepa Mehta inWater (2005) andMidnight's Children (2012). Besides working with mainstream Bollywood films likeLove Aaj Kal (2009),Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana (2012) and withRakeysh Omprakash Mehra inBhaag Milkha Bhaag (2013).[4]
