Doberus orDoberos (Ancient Greek:Δόβηρος) was a town ofPaeonia, whichSitalces reached after crossingMount Cercine, and where many troops and additional volunteers reached him, making up his full total.[1]Hierocles calls the townDiaborus orDiaboros (Διάβορος) and names it next toIdomenae among the towns ofMacedonia Prima under theByzantine Empire; this, coupled with the statement ofPtolemy that it belonged to theAestraei,[2] would seem to show that Doberus was near the modernDojran.Suda called it Dobeira (Δόβειρα).[3]
Doberus was the seat of a bishop in antiquity. In modern times, it is atitular see of theRoman Catholic Church.[4]
The site of Doberus is near the modernBansko,North Macedonia.[5][6]
