Diva (formerlyDiva Universal) was an English-languagepay television channel inSingapore. It launched on 30 November 1997 as Hallmark Channel, along withE! to viewers acrossSoutheast Asia andASEAN. In 2010, the channel was renamed Diva Universal and then Diva in 2014. It closed on 1 January 2020, after 22 years of broadcasting in anticipation of the launch of the streaming serviceHayu in the region after the channel space created in 2001 by Hallmark Channel ceased to exist.

History

Hallmark Channel Asia was launched on 30 November 1997 withE!. It had four different feeds including the Philippine one, which was launched on 19 August 2009.

Hallmark Channel Asia was rebranded asDiva Universal on 19 September 2010, after itsbrand licensing agreement withCrown Media ended, as part of Universal Networks International's efforts to refocus its network portfolio. Coinciding with the launch of its high-definition feed, the SD channel started broadcasting in16:9widescreen on 1 February 2014. On 16 June 2014, Diva Universal's name was simplified toDiva.

On 28 January 2015, the HD version of Diva was launched.

As part of a restructuring atNBCUniversal International Networks and the officially formal full launch ofHayu inAsia on at stroke of midnightNew Year's Day2020, Diva along with its sister channelE! Entertainment Television officially ceased broadcasting and transmission after very final and last programme beingAbout Time after the officially closing ceremony being held atUniversal Studios Singapore with the station ident/logo of DIVA Be Yourself and thevocal national anthem was played withSingapore English/Singlish translated subtitles andlaserdisc label by Kowloon Video Pte Ltd.

After the closure of Diva, it fades to black screen for two minutes until the closure message for providers that broadcast the channel. Indonesian provider broadcast this message "THIS CHANNEL HAS BEEN CEASED BROADCAST. PLEASE CONTACT YOUR SERVICE PROVIDER FOR DETAILS". All Diva shows were moved toCNBC Asia. NBCUniversal channels in Asia retainedDreamWorks,CNBC Asia andGolf Channel.
