The boat was built byGrampian Marine inCanada between 1975 and 1977, but it is now out of production. Only a small number were completed.[1][4]
After Grampian's end of production the molds were acquired by a new company who built a small number of boats with different window arrangements.[4]
The Discovery 7.9 is a small recreationalkeelboat, built predominantly offiberglass, with wood trim. It has amasthead sloop rig, araked stem, a verticaltransom, a transom-hungrudder and a fixed finkeel. It displaces 5,100 lb (2,313 kg) and carries 2,300 lb (1,043 kg) of ballast.[1]
The boat has a draft of 3.75 ft (1.14 m) with the standard keel fitted.[1]
