Dirk Bezemer (born 1971) is a Dutch economist who is a professor at the Faculty of Economics and Businessof theRijksuniversiteit Groningen. He studied atWageningen University (M.Sc. in Economics (1995)) andUniversity of Amsterdam &Tinbergen Institute (Ph.D. in Economics (2001)).[1] His topics of expertise include thefinancial sector,credit creation,credit cycles,monetary policy, and the cause ofeconomic crises.[2][3][4] Bezemer provides commentary at theCentre for Economic Policy Research andDe Groene Amsterdammer.[5] In a September 2009 opinion piece in theFinancial Times he wrote that a dozen economists whom he listed had predicted the2008 financial crisis but were ignored.[6][7][8][9][10]
