Dipus, meaning "two foot" inAncient Greek, is a genus ofjerboa. Today only a single species is usually recognized, thenorthern three-toed jerboa(Dipus sagitta), widespread throughoutCentral Asia. Some authors recognize a second species, theQaidam three-toed jerboa (Dipus deasyi) from theQaidam Basin of westernChina.[1] The genus has a fossil record that dates back to theMiocene, with several extinct species known from Asia.[2][3] The oldest dated species isDipus conditor.
