Dinema,synonymDinematomonas, is agenus offlagellatedalgae in thephylumEuglenozoa.[1]
Like other members of the family Anisonemidae,Dinema consists of single-celled organisms with a larger posteriorflagellum by means of which they are able to glide. They arephagotrophic, meaning that they feed by engulfing particles of food, and are non-photosynthetic.[1]
The genusDinema was established by Perty in 1852, and is valid under theInternational Code of Zoological Nomenclature. However, due to the earlier description of theorchid genusDinema, it is anillegitimate name under theInternational Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants.[3] As a result, Paul C. Silva Other sources use the genus nameDinematomonasP.C.Silva.[2]Dinema is an acceptable name under theInternational Code of Zoological Nomenclature.[1]
Dinema is probablyparaphyletic with respect toAnisonema.[1]
