Dimitrios Gouvelis (Greek:Δημήτριος Γουβέλης) was a military leader of theGreek War of Independence and politician.
Hailing fromKarpenisi, Dimitrios Gouvelis was anarmatolos during the final years ofOttoman rule in Greece.[1] When theGreek War of Independence broke out, he formed his own armed band, and fought in theSiege of Karpenisi, theBattle of Dervenakia, and in theBattle of Agios Vlasios.[1] In 1824, the provisional Greek government named him prefect of Karpenisi and garrison commander of Mount Apokleistra.[1] In 1825 he was promoted tochiliarch.[1] He was later promoted to general rank, and was elected to the national assemblies of 1832 and 1843.[1] He was the brother ofKonstantinos Gouvelis.[1]
