Derrick Osamuyi Obasohan (born April 18, 1981) is a Nigerian-Americanbasketball coach and former player. He is currently an assistant coach for hisalma mater, theUniversity of Texas at Arlington.
Obasohan played high school basketball atAlief Elsik inHouston, Texas. Obasohan then playedcollege basketball, where he was a First Team All-Southland Conference performer with theTexas–Arlington Mavericks.[citation needed]
On May 21, 2010, Obasohan signed withTrabzonspor of Turkey for the2010–11 season.[1] In 26 games, he averaged 11.7 points and 3.85 rebounds per game.[2]
On September 2, 2011, he signed withJoventut of Spain for the2011–12 ACB season.[3] In 34 games, he averaged 9.2 points per game.
On May 15, 2012, he signed with theCocodrilos de Caracas of the VenezuelanLPB.[4] He left Caracas after appearing in only three games.
In the 2012–13 season, he started in Argentina withBoca Juniors, but left after only four games and on November 11, 2012, he signed withCholet Basket of France for the rest of the season.[5]
In August 2013, he signed withAS Monaco Basket of theFrench NM1 (third division).[6] In two seasons with Monaco, he helped them to come first toLNB Pro B and then toLNB Pro A league.
In October 2015, he signed withProvence Basket of the LNB Pro B.[7]
Obasohan representedNigeria at the2006 FIBA World Championship inJapan. He won the bronze medal at the2011 FIBA Africa Championship. He also represented Nigeria at the2012 Summer Olympics.
Following the conclusion of his playing career, Obasohan returned toUT Arlington as an assistant coach.[8]
