TheDepartment of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development (DALRRD) is adepartment of theGovernment of South Africa created in June 2019 by the merger of the agriculture functions of the formerDepartment of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries with theDepartment of Rural Development and Land Reform.[1] The department has responsibility foragriculture,food safety,food security,land reform,topographic mapping,cadastral survey, theDeeds Offices, andspatial planning.
The political head of the department is theMinister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, who is assisted by two deputy ministers.[1] As of August 2020[update] the minister isThoko Didiza,[2] the deputy minister for land reform isMcebisi Skwatsha,[3] and the deputy minister for rural development isSdumo Dlamini.[4]
In the 2020 budget the department received anappropriation ofR16,810.1 million. In the 2019/19 financial year it had 7,505 employees.[5]
