Dennis Edwin Showalter (February 12, 1942 – December 30, 2019) was a professor emeritus of history atColorado College.[3] Showalter specialized inGerman military history. He was president of the AmericanSociety for Military History from 1997 to 2001.[4] In addition, Showalter was an advising fellow of theBarsanti Military History Center at theUniversity of North Texas.[5]

Career

Showalter began teaching at Colorado College in 1969.[3] Showalter also previously taught at theUnited States Air Force Academy, theUnited States Military Academy, and theMarine Corps University.[6] He wrote extensively on the wars ofFrederick the Great, theGerman Wars of Unification,World War I, andWorld War II.
