Democratic Socialism (Spanish:Socialismo Democrático[sosjaˈlismoðemoˈkɾatiko],SD) is a Chileancentre-left political coalition established on 2021, by theSocialist Party,Party for Democracy,Radical Party,Liberal Party and the platformNew Deal.
The pact emerged after thede facto dissolution of theNew Social Pact and did not include theChristian Democratic Party, which meant the end of the historic alliance between socialist and christian democrats, which had been in force since thetransition to democracy in 1990.[2][3]
In December 2021, Democratic Socialism was called to be part of the government ofPresidentGabriel Boric.[4] The parties joined a coalition withApruebo Dignidad and came to government on March 11, 2022.[5]
On February 22, 2022, the leaders of the alliance traveled toMadrid,Spain, where they held a political meeting with former Prime MinisterJosé Luis Rodríguez Zapatero (PSOE).[6]
