Delany's mouse orDelany's swamp mouse (Delanymys brooksi) is a species ofrodent in the familyNesomyidae. It is theonly species in thegenusDelanymys and the only extant member of subfamilyDelanymyinae, which also contains the fossil genusStenodontomys. It was previously placed in subfamilyPetromyscinae, but it is apparently not closely related toPetromyscus. It is found inDemocratic Republic of the Congo,Rwanda, andUganda. Its naturalhabitats are subtropical or tropical high-altitudeshrubland andswamps. It is threatened byhabitat loss.
In 2013, a robust muroid phylogeny foundDelanymys sister toMystromys +Petromyscus, reviving the affinity ofDelanymys to petromyscines, in addition toMystromys (Mystromyinae). Conventionally, all three genera have been placed in their own subfamily; a scheme that creates redundant, non-informative monogeneric subfamilies with respect to extant taxa.
More broadly, the cladeDelanymys belongs to (Delanymys + (Mystromys +Petromyscus)) was sister to Dendromurinae (Steatomys + (Dendromus +Malacothrix)) and Cricetomyinae (Saccostomus + (Beamys +Cricetomys)).
