Dejan Židan (pronounced[ˈdɛːjanˈʒiːdan]) (born 16 October 1967)[1] is aSlovenian politician, former leader of theSocial Democrats, and the former speaker of theNational Assembly of Slovenia.[2]
Aveterinarian by education, Židan served as minister of agriculture, forestry, and nutrition from 2010 in 2012 inBorut Pahor's government.[1] In the2011 parliamentary election, Židan was elected a member of the National Assembly. In 2013, Židan became minister of agriculture and the environment inAlenka Bratušek's government.[3] In March 2014, Židan was named the most popular Slovenian politician in a public opinion poll.[4] Following theEuropean Parliament election, Židan replacedIgor Lukšič as acting president of theSocial Democrats.[5]
