Deborah Davis is a British screenwriter, known forThe Favourite (2018).[1]

Davis has a background in practicing law and journalism.[2][1] She wrote the first draft of what would becomeThe Favourite in 1998, under the original titleThe Balance of Power, and earned an MA from theUniversity of East Anglia.[3][4]The Favourite was nominated for numerous awards and accolades. She submitted the story to producer Ceci Dempsey andEd Guiney, who brought in directorYorgos Lanthimos. Lanthimos introduced Davis toTony McNamara to help polish the screenplay.[3]

In 2022 premiered atelevision series Davis wrote based on the life ofMarie Antoinette.[5][6] TheCanal+ andBBC production was filmed in France in locations that includedVersailles andVaux-le-Vicomte.[7]
