Orrin Dean Griffing (1915 – 1998) was an Americangridiron football player, coach, and executive. He played as acenter andlinebacker for theKansas State University in 1933 and 1934,[1][2] for theRegina Roughriders from 1936 to 1943, forToronto Balmy Beach Beachers in 1944, and theCalgary Stampeders from 1945 to 1947; the last he also part owned.[3] Griffing was inducted into theCanadian Football Hall of Fame in 1965.[3] He coached Saskatchewan during the mid-1950s.[1][3] In 1960, Griffing became the first general manager of theDenver Broncos, selected in part because of his known and needed frugality.[1][2][4] He was responsible for the team's brown and yellow uniform and socks, which he had bought secondhand from a high school all-star game.[4] He later worked as special assignment scout for theChicago Bears.[2]

Griffing died in 1998 inSarasota, Florida.[2][5]
