The Ballpark at America First Square is abaseball stadium in thewesternUnited States, located inSouth Jordan, Utah, a suburb southwest ofSalt Lake City. Opened in spring 2025,[1] it is the home of theTriple-ASalt Lake Bees of thePacific Coast League.

Design and construction

[edit]

In May 2023, Miller Sports + Entertainment (MSE) released renderings of The Ballpark at America First Square. The stadium was designed by HOK and was built by Okland Construction.[5]

The Ballpark was designed to meet the requirements ofmajor league teams. Its design includes a 12,000-square-foot (1,100 m2) clubhouse, training and player development areas, and multiple batting cages.[5] It is the home of theTriple-ASalt Lake Bees of thePacific Coast League.[4] The ballpark replaced the Bees' former home,Smith's Ballpark, where the team has played since its founding in 1994.[6]

By October 17, 2024, the playing grass was fully installed.[7] The right and left field walls are 345 feet (105 m) away from the home plate as measured along the foul line, and the distance from home to the center field wall is 420 feet (128 m). Thediamond is oriented east to provide a view of theWasatch Mountains,[2] and the approximateelevation at street level is 4,900 feet (1,490 m) abovesea level.

The Ballpark is smaller than the Bees' former home stadium with aseating capacity of 8,000; Smith's Ballpark is roughly double this amount. The Ballpark also has a much heavier emphasis on premium seating.[8]

The area immediately surrounding the stadium is dedicated to the construction of 900 apartments, 100,000 square feet (9,300 m2) of office space, and 75,000 sq ft (7,000 m2) of retail space.[9]

The Ballpark includes better facilities for players compared to Smith's Ballpark. There are two batting cages for each team and both male and female locker rooms for umpires and coaches.[10]

Transportation

[edit]

The Utah Transit Authority built theSouth Jordan Downtown station on theTRAX Red Line to serve the stadium. The City of South Jordan, the Utah Department of Transportation, and the Larry H. Miller Company aimed to reduce the impact of the stadium on local traffic. Access points are being constructed to allow cars to enter the stadium's parking lot from Mountain View Corridor.[11]

Texas U-turns will allow drivers to make a U-turn without having to pass through intersections with traffic lights. Trails are planned to encourage access via foot and bicycle.[11]

Ownership

[edit]

The stadium is a privately funded venture by Miller Sports + Entertainment, owners of the Bees, and the cost of the stadium was$140 million.[1] It is part of a larger mixed-use entertainment district within the master-plannedDaybreak community, which is expected to take more than 15 years to complete.[12][9]
