David Rodríguez Sánchez (born 14 February 1986) is a Spanish professionalfootballer who plays as aforward.
He amassedSegunda División totals of 392 games and 124 goals over 12 seasons, representingCiudad de Murcia,Salamanca,Celta,Sporting de Gijón,Alcorcón,Osasuna,Numancia andRacing de Santander in the competition. He added 14 matches inLa Liga (one goal), and also played professionally in England withBrighton & Hove Albion.
Rodríguez was born inTalavera de la Reina,Province of Toledo. After leavingAtlético Madrid's youth academy, he started professionally withCiudad de Murcia in theSegunda División. However, the lack of playing time for theColchoneros' first team made him drop down toSegunda División B in January 2006, as he moved toUD Las Palmas.[1]
In the2006–07 season, Rodríguez returned to Atlético to play withthe reserves and rank as their top scorer, a feat which he repeatedthe following campaign withUD Salamanca in the second division.[2] Such solid performances earned him a transfer toLa Liga, moving for€400.000 toUD Almería;[3] before2008–09 began, however, he was loaned toRC Celta de Vigo,[4] returning the following summer toAndalusia.[5]
Rodríguez made his top-flight debut on 30 August 2009, appearing in a 0–0 home draw againstReal Valladolid.[6] On 22 November, he scored after just five minutes on the pitch but Almería lost 3–1 atRCD Mallorca,[7] and the player was only the fourth of fifth attacking option at the club duringthe season.[8]
On 17 July 2010, after having been suspended by Almería,[9] Rodríguez signed for Celta permanently, penning a four-year contract.[10] In thefirst year in his second spell he netted 17 goals, leading theGalicians to the sixth position in theregular season and the subsequentpromotion playoffs.[11]
On 29 August 2012, having contributed nine goals in 28 matches toCelta's promotion, Rodríguez signed for second tier sideSporting de Gijón.[12] He scored his first goal for his new team on 9 September, opening in a 1–1 home draw againstCD Lugo.[13]
Rodríguez terminated his contract at Celta on 30 January 2014, completing a move toEnglish clubBrighton & Hove Albion the following day.[14] He made his debut in theChampionship two days later, coming on as a second-halfsubstitute in a 2–0 loss atWatford.[15]
On 18 July 2014,free agent Rodríguez joinedAD Alcorcón.[16] He scored a career-best 20 goals in hisdebut season, helping to a final 11th position in division two.[17]
Rodríguez scored his firsthat-trick as a professional on 24 October 2015, in a 6–1 home demolition ofUE Llagostera.[18] On 30 June 2017, after 52 overall goals for theAlfareros, he signed a three-year contract withCA Osasuna in the same league, for €350,000.[19]
On 30 January 2019, Rodríguez was loaned toCD Numancia also of the second division until June.[20] Upon returning to theEl Sadar Stadium, he terminated his contract on 1 July,[21] and agreed to a one-year deal atRacing de Santander on 20 August.[22]
Rodríguez's younger brother, Sergio, was also a footballer. Adefender, he played as a senior for Atlético Madrid and Celta, in both cases only representing their reserves.[23][24]
