David Cortés Caballero (born 29 August 1979) is a Spanish former professionalfootballer who played as aright-back.

He appeared in 273La Liga matches in exactly ten seasons, mainly withMallorca andGetafe (four years apiece). He won oneCopa del Rey with the former club.

Club career

Born inLlerena, Badajoz, Cortés made his professional debut with localCF Extremadura in theSegunda División. He then moved toRCD Mallorca inLa Liga (alongside teammatePoli), where he was first-choice for three full seasons,[1] helping theBalearic Islands team to the2003 edition of theCopa del Rey.[2]

In summer 2006, Cortés signed withMadrid'sGetafe CF.[3] After splitting duties with RomanianCosmin Contra in2006–07, he startedthe following campaign as the sidereached the quarter-finals of theUEFA Cup.[4]

In2009–10, with Contra already gone, Cortés was greatly overshadowed by new signingMiguel Torres,[5] but still contributed 20 league matches as Getafequalified for the second time in the club's history to the Europa League.[6] In July 2010, at almost 31, he signed a one-year contract withHércules CF,returned to the top flight after a 13-year absence.[7]

Cortés was the undisputed first-choice right-back during hisonly season with theValencians,[8] who finished 19th and were immediately relegated.[9] In mid-July 2011, he joinedGranada CF also from the top division on a two-year deal.[10]

From2012 to2014, Cortés competed in the second tier with Hércules[11] andReal Zaragoza.[12] On 15 September 2014, at already 35, he moved abroad for the first time, signing withDanish 1st Division sideAarhus Gymnastikforening for one year[13] and retiring after helping them to win promotion.
