David Castedo Escudero (born 26 January 1974), sometimes known as justDavid, is a Spanish former professionalfootballer who played as aleft-back. He was known for his tenacity.[1]
He appeared in 255La Liga games over ten seasons, mostly forSevilla which he helped to win four major titles, including twoUEFA Cups.
A product ofRCD Mallorca's youth academy, Castedo was born inPalma de Mallorca, and first played with the first team in theSegunda División. In the1996–97 season, he appeared in 33 league matches as the club returned toLa Liga.[2]
Following two loan spells, first withHércules CF then withCF Extremadura (the latter in the top division), David returned to theBalearic Islands, playing only eight games in hissecond spell but also scoring his first goal as a professional. Subsequently, he signed forSevilla FC, where he experienced the most successful and steady years of his career: after contributing 39 appearances to help theAndalusians to a2001 top-flight promotion, he went on to become one of the team's most important players, also being named, afterJavi Navarro andJosé Luis Martí,captain.[3][4]
Castedo made 33 league appearances in2005–06, also playing all ofthat campaign'sUEFA Cup matches as Sevillalifted the trophy againstMiddlesbrough – 11 of those were complete.[5] In the following year, due to the emergence of youth graduateAntonio Puerta and the consolidation ofIvica Dragutinović, he appeared less, but still managed 26 total appearances, including seven in the UEFA Cup as theyrenewed their European title.[6][4]
After seven years at theRamón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium, David moved in August 2007 toLevante UD,[7] who went on to berelegated from the main division at the end of the season.[8] He retired aged 34, having played 511 games as a professional.[4]
