David Burt (born 1953) is a Britishactor,[1] known primarily for his many and wide-rangingWest End performances.

David Burt is the son ofPip Hinton, better known for her role inCrackerjack alongsideEamonn Andrews and laterLeslie Crowther. He graduated fromRADA.

HisWest End theatre work includesEnjolras andJavert inLes Misérables, Anatoly Sergievsky inChess,Pontius Pilate inJesus Christ Superstar, Orin Scrivello inLittle Shop of Horrors, Agustín Magaldi inEvita,Munkustrap inCats, and John Jasper inThe Mystery of Edwin Drood. He has also played many leading roles at theRoyal National Theatre and theRoyal Shakespeare Company. His television work includesThe Trojan Horse,Poldark andThe Merchant of Venice.

Burt played the flamboyant Count Fosco oppositeYvette Robinson inAndrew Lloyd Webber'sThe Woman in White at thePalace Theatre (2005) and was featured as Captain Andy Hawks inShow Boat at theRoyal Albert Hall. He played nefarious prison officer Jim Fenner inBad Girls: The Musical at theGarrick Theatre in London'sWest End (2007). He toured the UK Antarctic explorer Robert Falcon Scott in G. M. Calhoun'sThe Last South (2008).

Other London credits include Captain Harkness in the world premiere musical adaptation ofThe Far Pavilions, Vic Christian in thePet Shop Boys' musicalCloser to Heaven, andErnest Hemingway in the musicalBeautiful and Damned. He also appeared in theRoyal National Theatre production of Leonard Bernstein's musicalCandide. He also played Monsieur Firmin in theSydmonton Festival workshop ofAndrew Lloyd Webber'sThe Phantom of the Opera.

David Burt created the role of King John inBlondel, byTim Rice andStephen Oliver. He can be heard on the 1985 original London cast recording ofLes Misérables, as Enjolras, and the 1996 London cast recording ofJesus Christ Superstar. He was among the only members of the original principalLes Misérables cast not to appear at the25th Anniversary concert, claiming he would not be able to sing the part in the encore anymore.

In 2011, he starred as Zangler inCrazy for You at theNovello Theatre, London. Notable hijinks included handing a hard hat to an orchestra member during the bows, after accidentally sending a chair into the pit during Act 2. In 2014 he appeared alongsideGina Beck,Daniel Boys andEve Polycarpou inJacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris at theCharing Cross Theatre.

In 2016, Burt starred in the world premiere ofThe Buskers Opera in London.[2] He is currently appearing inThe Last Ones byMaxim Gorky at London'sJermyn Street Theatre.
