Not to be confused withDavid Porter (musician).

Dave Porter is an American composer, best known for his original score for the television seriesBreaking Bad (2008–2013), its prequel spin-offBetter Call Saul (2015–2022) and the epilogue filmEl Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (2019).[1] AtSarah Lawrence College, Porter studied classical and electronic music composition.[2]

Breaking Bad

For his work onBreaking Bad, Porter has won anASCAP Award.[3]Bryan Cranston, who portraysWalter White, stated "With his music, Dave Porter has created another character forBreaking Bad. Evocative and meaningful, Dave's work is an essential part of the storytelling."[4] Porter stated that influences on the series' music came from discussions withVince Gilligan, the creator ofBreaking Bad, about the show having aspects of a post-modern western.[5] For the final episodes of the series, Porter incorporated four important themes that were in previous seasons.[6]

Porter has also composed music forNBC's crime thrillerThe Blacklist.

Personal life

Porter has a wife, Jeanine, a son, and a daughter.[4]
