Dauber (1935–1947) was an AmericanThoroughbredracehorse best known for winning the 1938Preakness Stakes. Bred bySonny Whitney, he was sired byHarry Payne Whitney's 1913Futurity Stakes winner,Pennant. His dam was Ship of War, a daughter ofMan o' War.
Dauber was purchased byWilliam du Pont, Jr. and raced by hisFoxcatcher Farms. UndertrainerRichard Handlen, his best result in a major race for two-year-olds was a win in the 1937Nursery Handicap and a third in the 1937Pimlico Futurity. At age three, he notably earned a second-place finish toStagehand in the 1938Santa Anita Derby. He went on to compete in all three of theU.S. Triple Crown races. Ridden by jockeyMaurice Peters, Dauber finished second toLawrin in theKentucky Derby, won thePreakness Stakes by seven lengths,[1] and was second toPasteurized in theBelmont Stakes. Following the Triple Crown, Dauber did not win another significant race.
Retired tostud, Dauber was not successful as asire.
