Daniel A. Dombrowski (born 1953) is an Americanphilosopher and professor emeritus ofphilosophy atSeattle University .[ 1] He has served as editor of the journalProcess Studies since 2009,[ 2] and is a past president of theMetaphysical Society of America (2018–19).[ 3]
Dombrowski has authored more than twenty books and over 200 articles in scholarly journals in philosophy, theology, classics, and literature. Among his books areRethinking the Ontological Argument: A Neoclassical Theistic Perspective (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 2006) andContemporary Athletics and Ancient Greek Ideals (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 2009).[ 4]
His main areas of intellectual interest arehistory of philosophy ,philosophy of religion (from a neoclassical orprocess perspective),political philosopher John Rawls ,Christian ethics andpacifism . Dombrowski is widely considered a leading expert on the philosophy ofCharles Hartshorne . In 2016, he was described as "the most important and prolific Hartshornean today".[ 5]
Animal rights and vegetarianism [ edit ] Dombrowski has authored several books dealing with the topics ofanimal rights andvegetarianism , includingThe Philosophy of Vegetarianism , published in 1984.[ 6] [ 7] It documents the arguments for vegetarianism fromPythagoras through theHellenistic period to the modern debates on vegetarianism. It was positively reviewed as an "extremely well documented work".[ 8]
Dombrowski'sBabies and Beasts: The Argument from Marginal Cases , published in 1997 is the first book-length examination of the range of views relating to theargument from marginal cases . The book cites the arguments ofPeter Singer ,Tom Regan ,H. J. McCloskey ,Jan Narveson ,John Rawls ,R. G. Frey ,Peter Carruthers ,Michael P. T. Leahy ,Robert Nozick , andJames Rachels .[ 9]
