Dana Allen Brown (born February 19, 1967) is an American baseball executive. He is thegeneral manager of theHouston Astros ofMajor League Baseball (MLB).

Playing career

Brown grew up inNew Brunswick, New Jersey and attendedNew Brunswick High School. He enrolled atSeton Hall University, where he playedcollege baseball for theSeton Hall Pirates with future Major Leaguers Mo Vaughn, Craig Biggio, John Valentin, and Kevin Morton.[1] In 1987, he playedcollegiate summer baseball with theHarwich Mariners of theCape Cod Baseball League.[2][3] ThePhiladelphia Phillies selected Brown in the 35th round of the1989 Major League Baseball draft,[4] and he playedMinor League Baseball in the Phillies organization for three seasons.[1]

After his playing career, Brown continued as a Minor League coach with the Phillies before becoming ascout for thePittsburgh Pirates in 1994.[1] He was promoted to East Coast crosschecker with the Pirates before becoming the director of amateur scouting for theMontreal Expos in 2002.[5] He remained with the franchise when they relocated, becoming theWashington Nationals. After the 2009 season,Alex Anthopoulos, thegeneral manager of theToronto Blue Jays and former assistant of Brown's with the Expos, hired Brown as a special assistant to the general manager.[6] Brown served as the vice president of scouting for theAtlanta Braves from 2019 to 2022.

The Astros hired Brown as general manager on January 26,2023.[7]

On December 13, 2024, Brown completed one of the most significant trades in franchise history, sending three-timeAll-Star,Silver Slugger andGold Glove Award winnerKyle Tucker to theChicago Cubs for infielderIsaac Paredes, pitcherHayden Wesneski, and third base prospectCam Smith.[8]
