Daniel Mark Tomlinson (born July 1992) is aBritish Labour Party politician who has served as theExchequer Secretary to the Treasury since 1 September 2025. He has been theMember of Parliament (MP) forChipping Barnet in north London since2024.[3] He defeated theConservative Party incumbentTheresa Villiers.[4]
Tomlinson was educated atWood Green School, a state comprehensive school in themarket town ofWitney, inOxfordshire, followed by theUniversity of Oxford, where he studiedPhilosophy, politics and economics.[5] Tomlinson worked forHM Treasury between 2015 and 2016 and for theResolution Foundation between 2016 and 2022, and became a senior economist for the foundation.[6] He also worked at theJoseph Rowntree Foundation.[7]
Tomlinson was a councillor in theLondon Borough of Tower Hamlets from 2018 until 2022.[8] He did not stand for reelection in 2022 and Labour subsequently lost control of the council toAspire.[9]
Inside Housing listed Tomlinson as one of eight newly elected MPs who would be advocates for the cause ofsocial housing in thenew Labour government.[7]
On 1 September 2025, Tomlinson was appointed asExchequer Secretary to the Treasury in aministerial reshuffle.[10] He replacedJames Murray, who was promoted toChief Secretary to the Treasury.[11]
He is married, the couple live in Whetstone and have a young son.
