Canadian journalist and news anchor (born 1951)

Dan Matheson is aCanadianjournalist andnews anchor who formerly anchored the news duringprimetime hours onCTV News Channel, starting from September 2001.[1] On November 17, 2015, his employment with CTV/Bell Media was terminated, along with scores of others.[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9]

Early life and career

He began his broadcast career atCKLY inLindsay, Ontario as anews andsports director.

CFTO

He left forCFTO in 1976, where he worked onWide World of Sports. While still working at CFTO, he joinedCanada AM where he presented sports news from 1978 until 1986. He continued on as a sports anchor, regularly contributing toCanada AM. In May 1995, he was made a co-host ofCanada AM.

CTV

In1984–85 and1985–86, he hostedCTV's NHL broadcasts, which covered regular season games on Friday nights (and some Sunday afternoons) and partial coverage of the playoffs andStanley Cup Finals. He also hosted the network's coverage of the 1987Canada Cup, the1988 Winter Olympics inCalgary, the1992 Summer Olympics inBarcelona, and the1994 Winter Olympics inLillehammer.[10]

Honors

He earned a 1997Gemini Award for Best Performance by a Sports Broadcaster for an interview with hockeysuperstarWayne Gretzky.
