Daniel Kevin Fogler (born October 20, 1976)[1][2] is an American actor, comedian and writer. He has appeared in films includingBalls of Fury,Good Luck Chuck, and theFantastic Beasts film series; and as a voice actor inKung Fu Panda,Horton Hears a Who!, andMars Needs Moms. He has also appeared onThe Walking Dead asLuke. More recently, Fogler portrayedFrancis Ford Coppola in the miniseriesThe Offer, andAlbert Grossman in theBob Dylan biopicA Complete Unknown.
In 2005, Fogler's Broadway debut as William Barfée inThe 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee won him theTony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical.
Fogler was the second child born to Shari and Richard Fogler, an English teacher and a surgeon, respectively, inBrooklyn, New York.[3][4] Fogler isJewish.[3][5][6] He attended elementary school at the Windmill Montessori School in Brooklyn, NY.[7] He graduated fromPoly Prep Country Day School in 1994, before attending theSchool of Theatre at Boston University.[8]
Fogler's first television appearance was in 2002 onFox's30 Seconds to Fame, as a contestant impersonatingAl Pacino. Other television credits include recurring roles onABC'sThe Goldbergs,NBC'sHannibal,CBS'sThe Good Wife and voice work for Fox'sAmerican Dad!. Fogler also has had starring roles in ABC'sMan Up![9] andSecrets & Lies, and starred in a music video forType O Negative's song "I Don't Wanna Be Me", in which he played a man recording himself on video dressed as celebrities includingMarilyn Monroe,Michael Jackson,Britney Spears, and finally the band's singer,Peter Steele.[10]
Fogler made his Broadway debut in 2005 withThe 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. The role of William Barfée won him theTheatre World Award for the original off-Broadway production and the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for the original Broadway production.
On film, Fogler starred in 2007'sBalls of Fury as Randy Daytona and inGood Luck Chuck oppositeDane Cook andJessica Alba. He also had roles inFanboys,Take Me Home Tonight,Scenic Route,Europa Report and theJ. K. Rowling adaptationFantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, released worldwide in November 2016.
Fogler has done a variety of voiceover roles in films such asHorton Hears A Who! withSteve Carell andJim Carrey,Disney'sMars Needs Moms, 2008'sKung Fu Panda withJack Black andJackie Chan, and the 2013 comedyFree Birds.
Fogler wrote and directed the playElephant in the Room in 2007, a work inspired byIonesco'sRhinoceros and produced by theNew York International Fringe Festival.[11] He also wrote and directed the filmHysterical Psycho, which premiered at the 2009Tribeca Film Festival[12] and featured actors from Stage 13, a film and theater production company of which Fogler is a founding member.[13] Fogler wrote, directed, and starred inDon Peyote (2014), with supporting performances fromJosh Duhamel,Anne Hathaway, andTopher Grace.[14]
In 2010,Archaia Entertainment published Fogler's first graphic novel, the horror anthologyMoon Lake.[15] The collection of stories chronicles the past, present, and future of the most haunted town on Earth.[citation needed] His next graphic novel,Brooklyn Gladiator, was published in 2018 byChapterhouse.[16]Heavy Metal published Fogler's graphic novelFishkill in 2020.[17]
In 2009, Fogler married Jodie Capes, co-founder of Capes Coaching, a career coaching company foractors andartists. They have two daughters, Edie and Franny.[18] In 2020, Fogler revealed on Instagram his successful two-year effort to lose 100 pounds (45 kilograms) for his health and his family, as he feared gettingobesity-related diseases such asdiabetes andhigh blood pressure.[19]
