Daniel James Feeney (born May 29, 1994) is an American professionalfootballguard for theMinnesota Vikings of theNational Football League (NFL). He playedcollege football for theIndiana Hoosiers and was selected by theLos Angeles Chargers in the third round of the2017 NFL draft.
Feeney was a one-year letterman involleyball and four yearletterman for theCarl Sandburg High School Eagles football team, where he was named team MVP in his junior year, playing on both theoffensive anddefensive lines.[1]
Feeney received offers fromIllinois andWestern Michigan, but committed to Indiana in the summer of 2011.[2]

Feeney set records in hisfreshman year in 2012, by starting all 12 games and earned honorable mention All-Big Ten honors at right guard, and did not allow a singlesack all season.[3] He suffered aLisfranc fracture during a scrimmage that would cause him to miss the entire 2013 season. Feeney wasredshirted to maintain three years ofeligibility.[4]
Feeney returned in 2014 to whatESPN termed "theB1G's most underrated position group".[5] He started all 12 games in a year where Indiana set program single-season records with 3,163 rushing yards,[6] led by 2,036 yards fromHeisman candidateTevin Coleman.[7]
Ahead of his redshirt junior season in 2015, Feeney was named to theLombardi Award andOutland Trophy watch lists.[8] At the end of the season, Feeney earned consensus first-teamAll-American honors fromESPN,CBS Sports, theAssociated Press andSports Illustrated.[9]
Prior to the start of the2016 season, Feeney announced he would be returning for his senior year.[10] On September 10, 2016, Feeney suffered a concussion while playing againstBall State.[11] Feeney would be medically cleared to return to action prior to the Hoosiers game againstMaryland on October 29, 2016.[12] On November 30, 2016, Feeney was named First-team All-Big Ten.[13] At the end of the season, Feeney earned his second All-American Team honors by the Associated Press.[14]
In June 2016, Feeney was labelled the “best interior offensive lineman” prospect in the2017 NFL draft by NFL analystLance Zierlein.[15] After completing his senior season in 2016, Feeney entered the draft and was projected by NFL draft experts and scouts to be a second round pick. He received an invitation to theNFL combine and completed all of the required combine and positional drills. On March 31, 2017, he participated at Indiana'spro day, along withDevine Redding and six other prospects. He opted to only perform positional drills for scouts and team representatives from 27 NFL teams looked on, including offensive line coaches from thePhiladelphia Eagles,Buffalo Bills,Miami Dolphins, andDetroit Lions.[16] He was ranked the second best offensive guard prospect in the draft by NFLDraftScout.com,ESPN, and NFL analystMike Mayock.[17]

TheLos Angeles Chargers selected Feeney in the third round (71st overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft.[21] Feeney was the second guard the Chargers selected in the draft, behindForrest Lamp (second round, 38th overall).[22] He was also the fourth offensive guard and the fifth interior offensive lineman selected in the draft.
On June 2, 2017, the Los Angeles Chargers signed Feeney to a four-year contract worth $3.7 million, with a $924,632 signing bonus.[23]
He competed with Lamp,Matt Slauson,Brett Boyko,Donavon Clark, andKenny Wiggins throughout training camp for a starting guard position. Head coachAnthony Lynn named Feeney as the back-up right guard to Wiggins, after Lamp tore his ACL and was placed oninjured reserve for the season.[24]
He made his professional regular season debut during the Chargers' season-opening game, which was a 21–24 loss to theDenver Broncos. On October 29, Feeney earned his first career start at left guard during a 13–21 loss to theNew England Patriots after the starter, Slauson, suffered a season-ending biceps injury.[25] Dan ended up starting the rest of the season at left guard, being named to thePFWA All-Rookie Team for his efforts.[26]
Feeney entered 2018 continuing as the starting left guard, and did so for all 16 regular season games.
In the 2019 season, he made his first NFL career fumble recovery in a Week 4 win against theMiami Dolphins.
On March 19, 2021, Feeney signed a one-year contract with theNew York Jets.[27] That season, he played in 16 games, while starting in five. On March 16, 2022, he re-signed with the Jets on another one-year deal.[28]
On March 17, 2023, Feeney signed a one-year contract with theMiami Dolphins.[29]
On August 29, 2023, the Dolphins traded Feeney to theChicago Bears for a 2024 sixth-round pick.[30]
On March 15, 2024, Feeney signed a one-year deal with theMinnesota Vikings.[31]
Feeney is the son of Tony and Kim Feeney, and has a sister, Shannon Feeney. He currently donates to the MS society.[32]
