Daniel Moody Edwards (August 17, 1926 – August 7, 2001) was an Americangridiron football player and coach. He played professional as anend in theAll-America Football Conference (AAFC), theCanadian Football League (CFL), and theNational Football League (NFL).

Biography

Edwards playedcollege football atGeorgia. Drafted by thePittsburgh Steelers in the 1st round (9th overall) of the1948 NFL draft, Edwards played for the AAFC'sBrooklyn Dodgers (1948) andChicago Hornets (1949) and the NFL'sNew York Yanks (1950–1951),Dallas Texans (1952) andBaltimore Colts (1953–1954). In 1950, he was selected for thePro Bowl and First-teamAll-Pro. He holds the record for the shortest kick off return for a touchdown, 17 yards, set on October 17, 1949.[citation needed]

Following his playing career, Edwards spent four seasons as a coach with theBC Lions andEdmonton Eskimos before leaving football to become an oil executive.[1]
