Dammarane is a tetracyclictriterpene found insapogenins (formingtriterpenoidsaponins) like those of ginseng (ginsenosides:panaxatriol andprotopanaxadiol). Compounds of the series were first isolated from and named afterdammar resin, a natural resin from the tropical trees of thedipterocarp family.[2][3]
