Dallas Turner (born February 2, 2003) is an American professionalfootballlinebacker for theMinnesota Vikings of theNational Football League (NFL). He playedcollege football for theAlabama Crimson Tide, where he was named a consensusAll-American and theSEC Co-Defensive Player of the Year in 2023. Turner was selected by the Vikings in the first round of the2024 NFL draft.

Early life

Turner's father,Delon, is a former professional basketball player who became a venture capitalist.[1] He grew up inFort Lauderdale, Florida, and initially attendedAmerican Heritage School inPlantation, Florida.[2] As a junior, he was named the area Defensive Player of the Year by theSun-Sentinel after finishing the season with 74 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 45 sacks, and three forced fumbles.[3] After the season Turner transferred toSt. Thomas Aquinas High School inFort Lauderdale, Florida.[4] Turner was rated a five-star recruit and committed to playcollege football at Alabama entering his senior season after considering offers fromFlorida,Georgia,Michigan, andOklahoma.[5] He had 36 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, and 33 sacks as a senior. 25 sacks 33 tackles for loss.[6]

College career

Turner began his freshman season as part of Alabama's defensive pass rush rotation before starting his first career game against Texas A&M.[7] He was named to theSoutheastern Conference (SEC) All-Freshman team.[8] He tied for the lead in the SEC in sacks with ten in 2023.[9] In a loss to Tennessee in the 2022 season, he had an 11-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.[10] He was a Consensus All-American in 2023.[11] He earned SEC Defensive Player of the Year.[12] Turner declared for the2024 NFL draft following Alabama's loss in the2024 Rose Bowl.[13]

Turner was selected by theMinnesota Vikings in the first round with the 17th overall pick in the2024 NFL draft.[16] Turner had asack in his NFL debut in week 1 against theGiants.[17] In week 16 against theSeattle Seahawks, Turner picked offGeno Smith to record his first careerinterception en route to a 27–24 win.[18] As a rookie, he finished with three sacks, 20 tackles, one interception, and one pass defended.[19]
