Dale Jamieson (born 1947) is Professor of Environmental Studies and Philosophy atNew York University, a scholar ofenvironmental ethics andanimal rights, and an analyst ofclimate change discourse. He also serves as a faculty affiliate for theNYU School of Law and as director of NYU'sAnimal Studies Initiative, which was funded by Brad Goldberg with a $1 million donation in 2010.[1] In addition to his affiliation with the NYU Departments of Environmental Studies andPhilosophy, Jamieson also holds positions atThe Dickson Poon School of Law and at theUniversity of the Sunshine Coast in Australia.[2]

Previously, Jamieson had been atCarleton College and theUniversity of Colorado, Boulder, with visiting roles at other universities, includingCornell,Princeton, andStanford. In 2015, he presented the Arthur C. Wickenden lecture atMiami University. He is a critic ofgeo-engineering proposals.[3]

Biography

Jamieson was born inIowa, in 1947.[4] He grew up inSan Diego,California, where he was an avid surfer.[5] He received his B.A. in 1970 fromSan Francisco State University, and his Ph.D. in philosophy from theUniversity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1976.[6] He began his academic career atNorth Carolina State University, where he taught as a visiting instructor in philosophy from January 1975 to May 1978.
