Daiene G. Vernile[1] (born July 1, 1960) is a former politician inOntario, Canada. She was aLiberal member of theLegislative Assembly of Ontario from 2014 to 2018 who represented the riding ofKitchener Centre. She was a member of cabinet in the government ofKathleen Wynne.
Prior to her election to the legislature, Vernile was a television journalist forCKCO-TV. She lives inKitchener, Ontario with her husband John. They have three children.[2]
She ran in the2014 provincial election as theLiberal candidate in the riding ofKitchener Centre. She defeatedProgressive Conservative candidate and formerMPPWayne Wettlaufer by 6,913 votes.[3][4][5]
In June 2014, she was appointed asParliamentary Assistant to theMinister of Research and Innovation.
On January 17, 2018, Vernile was sworn into cabinet as Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport.[6]
She was defeated byNDP candidateLaura Mae Lindo in the2018 provincial election.
