TheDafali are aMuslim community found in India with the majority being in the state ofUttar Pradesh surname Masoodi[clarification needed]. They have been categorized inOther Backward Class (OBC) category in Uttar Pradesh. Dafali are also found in Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal.[1]

Origin

The Dafali are found throughout the country, primarily inUttar Pradesh, with special concentrations inPilibhit,Rampur,Moradabad,Sambhal,Badauon,Saharanpur,Kanpur andBareilly districts in the west, where the community speakKhari boli, while inAwadh, they are found mainly in the districts ofLucknow,Bahraich,Balrampur,Gonda,Shravasti andSitapur,Basti district,Balrampur,Gonda,Shravasti andSitapur,Sidharth Nagar District/Sidharthnagar,Allahabad,Pratapgarh,Jaunpur where they known as Hashmi, where the community speakAwadhi and their tribal language 'Madaah'.[2]
