Cyrtonyx is a birdgenus in the New World quail familyOdontophoridae.
The genusCyrtonyx was introduced in 1844 by the English ornithologist and bird artistJohn Gould.[1] The name combines theAncient Greekkurtos meaning "curved" andonux meaning "nail" or "claw".[2] Thetype species is theMontezuma quail (Cyrtonyx montezumae).[3]
