Thomas Cyril "Cy"Kasper (May 27, 1895 – December 28, 1991) was anAmerican football player and coach. He served as the head football coach atAlfred University inAlfred, New York from 1923 to 1924,Columbus College inChamberlain, South Dakota from 1925 to 1927, andSouth Dakota State University from 1928 to 1933.[1]

Kasper playedcollege football at theUniversity of Notre Dame from 1919 to 1920 under head coachKnute Rockne.[2] He originally played inter-hall football until being recommended to play varsity football by other football players.[3] Rockne pushed Kasper to take the 1927 head coaching position at theUniversity of Wyoming, but he headed to South Dakota State instead.[4]

Kasper was born on May 27, 1895, inFaribault, Minnesota, where he attendedShattuck Preparatory School. He was commissioned a lieutenant in theUnited States Army in 1917 and served overseas duringWorld War I with the88th Infantry Division. During his time in the service, he played on theCamp Dodge basketball team coached byJohn L. Griffith and played football for the 88th Division team withFrank McCormick andObe Wenig.[5]

Kasper died on December 28, 1991, inBismarck, North Dakota.[6]
