Cussy-en-Morvan (French pronunciation:[kysiɑ̃mɔʁvɑ̃];lit. 'Cussy-in-Morvan'), commonly referred to simply asCussy, is a ruralcommune in theSaône-et-Loiredepartment in theBourgogne-Franche-Comtéregion in central-eastFrance.
It is located some 20 km (12 mi) northwest ofAutun, in the heart ofMorvan Regional Natural Park. As of 2019, Cussy-en-Morvan had a population of 378. It covers an area of 34.77 km2 (13.42 sq mi).
It is situated on the departmental border with bothNièvre andCôte-d'Or atGien-sur-Cure and theMénessaire exclave, respectively.
Georges Leyton (code name Socrate), "one of the most popular leaders of theResistance of the Morvan" inWorld War II, was buried in the local cemetery in Cussy-en-Morvan on 12 August 1944, after being shot by German occupying forces near the nearby village ofLa Celle-en-Morvan.[3][4]
