From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Legendary people in Greek mythology
Not to be confused withKorybantes, the dancing attendants of Rhea.

InGreek mythology andepic literature, theCuretes (Ancient Greek:Κουρῆτες) were legendary people who took part in the quarrel over theCalydonian boar.[1] Strabo mentioned that the Curetes were assigned multiple identities and places of origin (i.e. eitherAcarnanians,Aetolians, fromCrete, or fromEuboea). However, he clarified the identity of the Curetes and regarded them solely asAetolians.[2]Dionysius of Halicarnassus mentioned the Curetes as the old name of the Aetolians.[3]

Their capital wasPleuron and they were in constant conflict with Oeneus who foundedCalydon.
