Publication history

[edit]

Cullen Bloodstone appears as one of the main characters inAvengers Undercover beginning in 2014.[2]

Fictional character biography

[edit]

Cullen Bloodstone is the son ofUlysses Bloodstone and the younger brother ofElsa Bloodstone. When Cullen is 10, Ulysses abandons him in another dimension so he can prove his worth as a Bloodstone.[3] Ulysses planned to retrieve Cullen the next day, but was killed by the Conspirators, resulting in Cullen being trapped in the dimension for over two years. During this time, he is possessed by the Glartrox, a parasitic alien creature. After returning to Earth, Cullen is given a special ring that prevents him from transforming into a Glartrox.[4][5][6][7]

Cullen Bloodstone is one of sixteen teenagers kidnapped byArcade, who forces them to fight to the death in Murderworld.[8] After the surviving teens escape,Helmut Zemo recruits Cullen into theMasters of Evil.[9] However, Cullen leaves the group and reunites with members of theRunaways andAvengers Academy.[10]

InThe Death of Doctor Strange event, Elsa and Lysa Bloodstone banish the Glartrox to another dimension, freeing Cullen from its influence.[11]

InExcalibur (vol. 4), Cullen Bloodstone buys theWarwolves from the zoo where they were imprisoned and enlists the members ofExcalibur to help kill them.[12][13][14] The group successfully kills the Warwolves, butCaptain Britain discovers that one of the Warwolves had a young pup, which she gives toRachel Summers as a pet.[15][16][17][18]

Powers and abilities

[edit]

Due to the Bloodstone ring, Cullen possesses superhuman abilities similar to those of his father Ulysses Bloodstone and his sister Elsa Bloodstone. He is superhumanly strong and durable, has greater than normal stamina, agility, and reflexes. Cullen is also able to rapidly regenerate from any damage he has sustained.

The Bloodstone ring also prevents him from transforming into a Glartrox, an other-dimensional creature that feeds on its host's soul and emotions. With help fromDaimon Hellstrom andAnachronism, Cullen gained the ability to suppress the Glartrox with his willpower and partially transform at will.[19][20]
