Leon Kenneth "Cul" Richards (May 5, 1898 – December 31, 1970) was an American athletics coach and businessman. Born inBritt, Iowa in 1898, he graduated fromGrinnell College in 1922.[1] At Grinnell, he played on thefootball team under coachBud Saunders. In 1924 he became coach of the freshman football team atClemson College (now University), under head varsity coach Saunders.[2] Richards was also headbaseball coach in 1926, leading the team to an 8–11 record.[3] He and Frank Padgett were interim head coaches for one game in the1926 football season after Saunders resigned and beforeBob Williams took over.[4][5]
Richards left Clemson after receiving a degree in civil engineering in 1927.[1] He moved toWaco, Texas, and started a construction supply business. His son was the husband ofTexas GovernorAnn Richards.[5]
